What’s it like to live in a Seattle Floating Home on the water of Lake Union? Find out with the Seattle Floating Homes Tour!
Driving around Seattle’s Lake Union you can see the Seattle Floating Homes in clusters ringing the lake, flowing into Portage Bay, and on sunny days you think, “I wonder what are they like inside?” “What is it like to live in a Floating Home in Seattle?” “Are there any Seattle Floating Homes for Sale?” Well, you can enjoy a tour of them with this year’s Floating Homes Tour!
This year’s Seattle Floating Homes Tour is Sunday, September 7th, 2014, from 12pm to 5pm, tickets are $30 and are available from BrownBagTickets.com. There are a limited amount of tickets available, and if there are any left the day of the tour, they can be purchased starting at 11am on East Lake Union at 2370 Fairview Ave E at the tour staging area. This is a rain or shine event, but the KOMO weathermen are forecasting sunshine and low 80s for this Sunday and the tour, much better weather than last weekend’s (Labor Day Weekend) rain and cooler weather.

“This year’s tour will feature homes on the Westlake shore and Eastlake shore of Lake Union. The admission price includes electric boat and bus shuttle transportation between the two sides of the lake. This is a self-guided walking tour and participants should expect to walk between docks, beginning at any home they wish. Comfortable, slip-on shoes are strongly recommended. There are stairs and uneven surfaces on some of the docks. Participants will be required to remove their shoes or put slippers over their shoes; slippers will be provided. No backpacks or strollers will be allowed in the homes.
“Participants will be treated to an afternoon visiting a series of floating homes each with its own fascinating history, architecture and art, and inhabitants reflecting the spirit and evolution of the historic community. These unique homes evoke the uncommon lifestyle of their floating inhabitants who share a love of water, boats and wildlife. Participants will enjoy viewing a diverse array of home designs that range from charming water cottages to grandiose floating manors.”
“The tour will take place rain or shine, and participants of all ages will be required to have a ticket, with the exception of babes in arms. Free espresso drinks and restroom facilities will be provided. Refreshment stands will be set up to offer food and drink for purchase.”
